In a significant disruption to the supply of prohibited drugs to regional NSW, a joint investigation between NSW Police Drug and Firearms Squad and the NSW Crime Commission has led to the arrest of two men allegedly involved in a highly organised drug syndicate concealing methylamphetamine (‘ice’) inside candles.

Following extensive investigations, NSW Police executed three search warrants at locations in Bankstown, Rozelle and Balmain on Tuesday 16 February 2021. Detectives discovered 4kg of ice concealed in candles worth $2.2m, one kilogram of heroin valued at $250,000, over $75,000 in cash, encrypted electronic devices and smaller amounts of prohibited drugs.

One man was charged with supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity) and direct criminal group. A second man was charged with supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity) and participate criminal group.

The arrests are part of ongoing investigations with further charges expected to be laid.
